What ever the type of installation (stand alone or network), when the setup is complete this is what the tree of folders and file palcement should look like in and under whatever folder the program is installed..

CD users planning on a single system installation have a very simple installation procedure:

  1. Copy contents of PSM32 folder on the CD to a folder on your hard drive. e.g. "c:\" or "c:\program files\"  resulting in the folder "c:\psm32\" or "c:\program files\psm32\"
  2. Run the setup.exe in the RunTime folder off the CD. 
  3. Reboot
  4. You may right mouse drag a shortcut to psm32 to your start menu, desktop or toolbar.
  5. (optionally) Delete the runtime folder on your disk to save space.
  6. Start PSM32
  7. Enjoy.

If desired, you may clear the readonly attributes on all the files by running FixRO.Bat in the PSM32 folder

Program Updates Top of Page

As new versions of the program become available, follow these steps to update your PSM

  1. Make sure you are not running PSM
  2. Download the new program file
  3. Run it and unzip the new version into the PSM folder
  4. If asked if you want to over write the existing version answser [YES].

Network installations Top of Page

To install PSM on a network you will need network administration permissions. For NT or Windows 2000 the run time must be installed as administrator.

Overview

The general idea is that the network administrator establishes a file share for the PSM program and rights all of the permitted users to it. The PSM program is run from the file share, rather then being copied to the individual users machines, individual users getting a shortcut to the program on the file share instead. This allows the administrator to update he PSM program and have it effectively updated for all users.   The client run time installation, help files (in HTML), demo (tutorial) database and main system lock file should reside on the file share. (See the diagram).

The client need only have the runtime installed on it and a shortcut to he PSM program on the server created on the user's desktop, toolbar or start menu.

On the Server Top of Page

  1. On the server you desire PSM to reside on create a folder (typically PSM32) this will be called the PSM folder.
  2. Give the desired users the rights to read/write this share.
  3. Copy the entire contents of the CD to the server

On the Client Top of Page

  1. Install the VB run time and controls by clicking on the file on the network PSM share
  2. Re-boot client
  3. Drag a shortcut of the PSM32.exe to the users desktop, menu or toolbar.
  4. Drag a shortcut of the PSM32 help file (help/default.htm) to the users desktop, menu or toolbar.
  5. Start PSM (via the shortcut) to test your installation
    * The clients should start PSM32.exe /C the first time the run it and browse to the file share to map the MDB and MDW files.
    * There after the program can be run without command line arguments normally.

Server Program Updates Top of Page

As new versions of the program become available, follow these steps to update your PSM

  1. Download the new program file
  2. Make sure no users are running PSM
  3. Run it and unzip the new version into the PSM folder
  4. If asked if you want to over write the existing version answser [YES].
